Dieter Zimmer
Dieter Zimmer presented the "heute" news programme on ZDF and presented results and analyses in the election studio. As editorial director for reports and documentaries, he brought hundreds of films, some of them his own, to the screen. As a live reporter, he reported on political events. As an author, he published a good 20 books, half of them novels, often on German-German or contemporary historical topics. His best-known work is Für'n Groschen Brause, the story of a post-war childhood in Leipzig. The book was made into a film for ZDF, as was Das kalifornische Quartett, an amusing quadrangle story.
Dieter Zimmer died at the age of 84 on 17 June 2024 in Wiesbaden.
